This one movement sonata explores the classical sonata form in a contemporary, minimalist style. The first theme group is full of energy generated by the excited repeated chords in the right hand and the constantly changing and evolving rhythmic groupings. This is heavily contrasted by a chorale-like second theme, which is slowly developed as more voices and ornamentation are added over time. After a second presentation of both thematic groups with variation, the piece ends with a triumphant coda.
